For years I have been looking for answers to the questions that have intrigued me a lot- why is Uttar Pradesh like one of the Sub-Saharan African countries and Kerala like one of the Scandinavian countries; why do poor in India always get poor services while they vote with their feet during every election; why is India’s development pathway different from other countries; the role of social faultlines in India in shaping her trajectory, so on and so forth.
When I started reading about some of these issues, I realized that one discipline cannot give me all the definitive answers. I have to read a little bit of politics, a little bit of history, some public policy literature, political economy, etc.
This newsletter is an attempt to share with you some of these ideas that will help us look at things through a different lens.
You as a reader would be my fellow-traveller in this journey.
