For years I have been looking for answers to questions that have intrigued me a lot- why is Uttar Pradesh like one of the Sub-Saharan African countries and Kerala is like one of the Scandinavian countries; why do poor in India always get poor services while they vote with their feet during every election; how is India’s development pathway different from other countries; how do the social faultlines in India have shaped her trajectory over the years and so on and so forth.
When I started reading about some of these issues, I realised that one discipline was not able to give me all the definitive answers. I have to read a little bit of politics, a little bit of history, some public policy literature, a lot of political economy etc. It was this epiphany when I realised that I have to come up with a platform where I can not only share some of these things with which I have been engaging very deeply but also to teach myself some of these disciplines on which I do not have formal training.
This newsletter is an attempt to share with you some of these ideas that will help us look at things with a different lens.
